Being in two places at once

Ever wish you could be in two places at once? Sixth grade humanities and seventh grade English teacher Shirley managed to do just that earlier this week.

Shirley has had to rest at home for a few days, and as she has been feeling better, she’s been missing her classes. So, earlier this week, she taught them– through Skype and an online app called TodaysMeet.

Through her two periods today, her voice could be heard loud and clear coming from the room. Upon entering, though, Kate, her sub was the adult in the room. All eyes were on the screen as Shirley gave directions, and then read and had a discussion with her students. She was even able to call on them using the camera on the computer. Students used TodaysMeet to backchannel during the reading and discussion, so everyone had their say.

While we can’t wait to have her back in person, we sure were happy to have her with us virtually– and appreciative of the energy and care that brought her “in” to school! Amazing technology, present with us today– like science fiction come to life!
